You can get to the World’s Largest Can on Highway 1A west in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba Canada. It is currently located between Canadian Tire and Canad Inns in Portage.

Driving Directions

If you are travelling eastbound on the Trans-Canada Highway No. 1 or the Yellowhead Route No. 16, these two highways merge 4 miles west of the Portage. You will need to take the Portage 1A exit, just after the Portage Diversion bridge. You will come over the bridge and need to turn right rather quickly. It’s about 2 and a half miles after the exit, and on the right side.

If you are travelling westbound on the Trans-Canada highway No. 1., you will need to take the Portage 1A exit to the right. There is no exit number. We don’t have that here. You’ll need to go through our city, and once you think you’ve gone far enough, you’ll need to go a little further. After the second rail crossing near the mall, you should see the Can on the left.

Rail Viewing

If you are taking the Calgary – Winnipeg train you can see the can on the north side of the tracks, about 300 feet away. If you are eastbound it will be on the left hand side, just shortly after you pass under a bridge and an oat processing plant. If you are westbound, you will pass the Portage train station, and then you’ll think that you’re through Portage, but you’re not. The open fields will change back to the Portage Mall area, and then on the right side about 300 feet away, you’ll see the can.
